Housing associations and residential communities

Fair EV charging on shared electricity – without costly rewiring or manual settlement.

Many residential charging installations run from a shared electricity supply. Alenta Charge records consumption per session, can use the spot market price as the basis for charging, gives residents their own terms and lets visitors pay by QR code and card.

Shared electricity does not have to mean a shared bill

When chargers are connected to the property’s shared meter, all residents should not have to pay for the electricity used by EV drivers. Measured consumption per session makes it possible to link costs to actual use while keeping the whole installation visible to the board.

Fair cost allocation

Consumption is recorded per charging session and user group, making it easier to allocate costs to the people who actually use the chargers.

Visitors can charge too

Visitors and external users can scan the QR code, see the price and pay by card in the browser without the board handling payment manually.

Spot price or fixed price

Charging can use the spot market price as its basis with grid fee and a chosen markup, or use a fixed price. This makes it easier to cover real electricity costs without an unnecessarily high safety margin.

Less work for the board

See kWh, charging sessions, usage and revenue per charger and location. Less manual settlement, fewer questions and a clearer basis for control.

Keep existing chargers

If the installation is compatible, you can often keep the infrastructure already in place and add the payment and access layer on top.

Scale as demand grows

Start with existing charge points and add more over time. Multiple chargers and parking areas can be managed in the same solution.

Avoid unnecessarily expensive workarounds

Some residential communities have solved individual cost allocation by running separate electrical circuits from each apartment meter all the way to the garage or parking area. In larger buildings and shared garages this can become complex and expensive.

If the chargers already measure actual energy use and can communicate with a central system, it is often much simpler to keep the shared power supply and handle allocation digitally. That can avoid rebuilding more of the electrical installation than necessary simply to determine who pays for what.

The key idea

A shared charging installation can still be fair: each user pays for measured consumption, visitors can pay themselves, and the board gets one consolidated overview. This reduces administration and the need for complicated special arrangements.

One monthly settlement – simpler accounting

The housing association receives consolidated documentation for charging activity, while payments are transferred to its account to help cover the electricity bill. The board and accountant avoid handling each charging session manually.

Stop guessing the electricity price

With a fixed charging price, boards often need a sizeable buffer to make sure shared electricity costs are covered during expensive hours. Using the spot market price as the basis allows charging prices to follow the market while grid fees and a selected markup are added, producing a more accurate price over time.

Option to add a small margin

A modest markup can ensure charging covers electricity and relevant costs while also contributing to operation and maintenance of the charging installation or other shared costs.

Designed to simplify administration

The board should not have to act as charging operator, payment collector and accountant for every charging session. Alenta Charge brings access, consumption, payment, pricing and reporting together so the installation needs less day-to-day follow-up.

Are you a resident and think this makes sense?

Send the link to this page to your board or property manager as a suggestion. They can then see how the existing charging installation could be used more fairly and with less administration.
